Monarch Butterfly Project Photos

During the spring 2017, the fourth graders at Enge Washington Elementary researched monarch butterflies and grew milkweed plants to help bolster declining populations.

  • Monarch butterfly eggs on the underside of a milkweed plant.
  • The little white dots are Monarch eggs.
  • We started the seedlings in early April in our classroom.
  • Every student had the chance to paint their own flower pot.
  • On May 18th, we had the opportunity to Skype with the founder of Programa Correo Real Mariposa Monarca in Saltillo, Mexico.
  • The students were able to have their questions answered via translator.
  • Programa Correo Real has been monitoring the annual Monarch migration in Mexico for 26 years.
